My current favorite Self care rituals

Introduction:
Self care is the force that drives The Alma Blog, so it only seemed right to share my favorite remedies that help me feel calm when life gets way too overwhelming.
When someone mentions the term “self-care”, most people think of face masks and spa days. In reality, self-care is whatever nourishes your soul and makes you feel fulfilled in life. It is what makes you feel at peace inside.
If you know me personally, you know I have accumulated a number of remedies throughout my life (which I’ll encourage you to do too, like having a spoonful of honey if you have a sore throat. @ my roomies) so I wanted to share 5 of my current favorites that get me through anxious days.
Working out:
Listen, my discipline really needs to improve in this area, BUT the times I do workout, I feel amazing after, it really boosts my mood and either gives me energy for the day or tires me out at night. I have a habit of working out consistently for a good week and then taking a break that runs a little longer than I’d like. On that note, I do notice that when I am consistent, my mental health improves immensely. It puts me in an overall better headspace and I recommend it for everyone who wants to improve themselves.
Deep Clean:
I love a clean space. Always have, always will. I find when my environment is extremely messy I get cranky and it immediately sets me in a bad mood. I haven’t always been organized and I still could improve in all honesty. However, my anxiety can tend to make me feel out of control, so when that happens, organizing my space is always the first step to making me feel like I have my life together.
Dry Brushing
I got my first dry brush about two years ago I believe, I absolutely love incorporating it into my nighttime routine right before I shower. Dry brushing is known to improve circulation within the body, reduce the appearance of cellulite, and it makes your skin feel like silk. I have noticed a major improvement in my skin and body since starting to dry brush. I recommend it to everyone and especially those that may have textured skin and are looking to smooth things out. Plus, it is super relaxing, almost like a massage.
Journaling
Listen, I am known to hate confrontation and to be particularly a happy gal. However, I do have to admit that I have a bit of a temper despite this (my dad is Italian it’s not my fault). When I feel like that cloud is forming, I try to deconstruct what is bothering me in order to see if it really is something worth getting angry or upset about. I tried physically writing it but I honestly could not stay focused and lacked guidance. Instead, I found an app called “Clarity” which is a guided journal app that includes podcasts, meditation, infographics, courses and different guided journals to help you deconstruct negative thoughts to get to the bottom of them. I recommend this app with all my heart. It has been a game-changer.
Positive Company
The people you surround yourself with are so important to your wellbeing. I adore spending time with the people that make me feel good. My family, boyfriend and friends always make me feel like I am in a judgment-free environment. My company helps take my mind off of anything that is bothering me. It is very important to have people who will celebrate you rather than trying to tear you down. This is crucial to your overall mental wellbeing and quality of life.
At the end of the day, self-care is different for every individual. These are rituals that help me target my needs. Self-care is ultimately what makes you feel good and well taken care of. Remember to always nurture your soul and the rest will fall into place.
I want to conclude Alma’s first article with a big thank you to everyone who is supporting this project. I am so excited to continue to share my experiences with you all and hope everyone can find something to relate to. See you next Friday!
